Am I the only one who doesn't like Christmas or do any of you feel the same way?
I just don't get the whole rushing around shopping thing and to be honest, it makes me feel lonely and depressed. I think that it's okay for children to get excited, but people go so 'over the top' about this time of year. I just keep wishing that it was all over and everyone could just go back to normal.
I don't come from a large family and usually I visit my husband’s family each Christmas, but I just end up by feeling frustrated and bored and want to go home.
Sometimes I work (I'm a nurse) on Christmas Day, but now that I have a family I feel that I should be making the effort at home.
I feel like it's a big fuss over nothing and I feel sorry for people who get into debt just to buy presents and stuff. There's so much pressure these days to be happy and enjoy you - I wish I could hibernate! |

Hey,
I don't like the commercial side of things, but I'm a big kid at heart, and have two of my own, so I just pitch in with them, wherever possible. They've always got a new toy that's worth playing with (I make sure of that!!), or a new book to read. My daughter's decided she's going to have a couple of construction kits, this year, which surprised, but delighted me, I must be honest! |

I really don't "do" Christmas at all, and haven't for a long time.
Even when I used to subscribe to the religious aspects of it, I used to find it all depressing and pointless, as I have very little family.
When I was a student, I used to frequently work on Christmas Day, and I really enjoyed that, as it seemed to beat the hell out of sitting at home bored.
These days, I don't have anything to do with organized religion at all, which is the right choice for me, to be honest.
As for Christmas itself, it's a couple of days off work. I quite enjoy going out and buying a few presents for friends and partner. I also enjoy the cooking, strange as it seems!
Other than that, to be honest I pretty much ignore it. If at some point in my life I am alone at Christmas, then I will make sure I am working in some way, even if it's as a volunteer. |

I dislike Christmas and always feel quite desolate on the day itself. It's like being a prisoner, and I have very bad memories from when I was a kid. Like you, Echelon, I also find all the pressure too much - pressure to get good presents, and to be really happy, and for everything to be all perfect. And the pressure to be with other people constantly during that time.
I don't even enjoy receiving presents because the whole thing is flavored with guilt and anxiety for me. I also find the disruption to normal life very unsettling and all the panic-buying in the supermarkets distasteful. (Bah humbug!!!!) |

I hate some parts of Christmas. And actually was just thinking of not celebrating Christmas this year.
I think many people really don't like it but feel that they "have to" do it. I don't have my own family yet and the last holiday was awful. |
