Hi Guys
I have had this book for a few years now, but-well hi I have ADD like I have to explain why I haven't read it yet. Anyways, I picked it up last night and was reading some of it and found it really enlightening. So much of what I feel is in it, it really has helped me a lot.
I think it is okay to endorse self-help type books on here isn't it? Anyways, it is called "Scattered Minds" by Gabor Mate, it talks a lot about adult ADD, and all of the psychological components of it.

I read a synopsis online about this book, (Called Scattered: How Attention Deficit Disorder Originates And What you Can Do About It, in paperback in the United States right now on bookshelves... it's called Scattered Minds in Canada evidently)

There are some parts of the book I am still a little iffy on, in the sense that I don't know if I totally agree with what he is saying. He talks a lot about the relationship between the parent and child, and the development of the child through what the parent does and doesn't do. Those areas I am a little critical of, because I don't really believe that they have as much impact on AD/HD as biology does.
I think it is interesting to look at AD/HD in our society. I wonder what the numbers are like for kids with AD/HD in the non-western world? Probably much lower. Our life styles cater to AD/HD..yet so many AD/HDers don't work well in the western style of doing things.
I don't think that you could have caused your children to have AD/HD through certain parenting skills, or lack of skills. I really think AD/HD is more about biology, and I think it is increasing in our society probably due to environmental toxins, lack of nutrition and so on.
